Ruggerie is cautious, but optimistic about the future of bowling. As one who is extremely active in the high school bowling program, which he says is “the most significant development and marketing opportunity our industry has had since the mid 50's, but Greendale is giving lip service and ineffective support to it,” he sees that program as criticaI to bowling’s future. “I see trouble for the industry if we don't address the athletic side of our product. But though it's a stretch, let's assume we do address it. I envision much stronger ties with schools... teaching bowling in every physical education class, daily after school instructional programs, "farm club" teaching programs after school for middle school kids... all these programs made possible by adding bowling as an interscholastic high school sport. 3:30pm to 7:00 pm will replace the traditional first shift. Prime time leagues will bowl at 7:30 pm,” stated Ruggerie. Ruggerie was the WIBC Proprietor of the Year in 2001. He has been married to Terri for 24 years and they have one son Dominic, 13.
